How to Change Indentation, Spacing and Line Spacing in Google Slides

How to Change Indentation, Spacing and Line Spacing in Google Slides | Quick Tips & Tutorial for your presentations

It is always good practice to include as little text as possible in your presentations, so it’s best if you mention only the most relevant concepts. In order to convey your ideas clearly, you’ll probably want to modify things such as indentation and spacing.

In this tutorial, we’ll see how to make your text more legible in Google Slides in a quick and easy way.

Adjusting the indentation

Let’s start by explaining how to change the indentation.

  • Open your presentation in Google Slides
  • Select the text you want to modify.
  • Click Format > Align and indent. You’ll see two options:
    • Increase indent: This will make the text start more to the right.
    • Decrease indent: This will make the text start more to the left.

You can also modify indents by dragging the markers on the ruler. But first, you must make sure that the ruler is visible. To do so, just click View > Show ruler.

Once the ruler is visible:

  • Select the text you want to modify.
  • You’ll see two markers, one for Left Indent and another for Right Indent. Click the one you want to adjust and drag it. The text will be modified accordingly.

Changing the line spacing

The line spacing indicates the amount of space there is between two lines of text. To adjust this:

  • Click Format > Line spacing.
  • There are four options to choose from:
    • Single
    • 1.15
    • 1.5
    • Double

The bigger the line spacing, the more the lines are separated from each other.

If none of the different values available suits you, you can enter your own custom value:

  • Format > Line spacing > Custom spacing.
  • Type the value in the box under “Line spacing”.

Changing the paragraph spacing

To modify the amount of space before or after a paragraph, first, you need to click Format > Line spacing. Now you have two options at your disposal:

  • Add space before paragraph: This will add some space before the first line of the paragraph.
  • Add space after paragraph: This will add some space after the last line of the paragraph.

Pro Tip: To remove the spacing, just click again on Format > Line spacing. Now, the option that you chose before will read “Remove space before paragraph” or “Remove space after paragraph”, depending on your previous choice.

You can also enter your own value. Go to:

  • Format > Line spacing > Custom spacing.

Now enter the desired values in the “Before” and/or “After” boxes below “Paragraph spacing (pts)”.
